The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) on Saturday 4 September 2021 held its third quarterly meeting in Nairobi to discuss the association’s journey, eight months after inception and chat the way forward.
Speaking during the event, the Chairperson of the association Mrs. Tabitha Kibochi informed members that MWAK is growing tremendously and has touched many lives since its initiation.
The Chair underscored that the association has given out over 150 special aid devises to children who are abled differently at various military establishments spread across the country.
She said that the emotional and financial drain upon parents having children with special needs is huge. “We are therefore taking it upon ourselves to talk to the young mothers on maternal health.”
She added that renovation of maternity facilities is ongoing in Embakasi and Lang’ata Garrisons as well as Moi Barracks to enhance maternal health care service delivery.
The association registered 13 new members and has plans to have regional representation in Thika, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nanyuki, Mombasa, Isiolo and Garissa to be able to reach more families.
Lieutenant Colonel Leah Yegon from the Defence Headquarters Compensation and Welfare Branch said this is a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of the beneficiaries.
Mrs. Susan Mzee outlined MWAK’s upcoming outreach activities in the months of September, October, November and December among them maternal child health and non-communicable disease awareness.
The meeting culminated in the appointment of new officials among them Mrs. Aileen Ogolla who was appointed the association’s Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Effie Kinuthia the Organizing Secretary while Mrs. Esther Mukambi becomes the MWAK Vice Secretary.
