MWAK’S MATERNAL AND CHILD WELFARE OUTREACH CAMPAIGN LANDS AT MOI AIR BASE

Families at Moi Air Base benefited from day two of the Maternal Health Outreach campaign organised by the Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) on 29 September 2021.

The outreach at MAB is part of a KDF-wide campaign that seeks to create maternal health awareness, education and screening of the mothers in the different Units.

The Chairlady, Mrs Tabitha Kibochi and MWAK members present, in collaboration with the Compensation and Welfare department and the Kenya Defence Forces Medical Team, aim to enhance provision of efficient maternal healthcare.

“We believe that our health is our wealth and it is our hope that through this campaign, we will make gains in the provision of prenatal and postnatal care available in our medical facilities,” she said.

Esther Wanjiku, a mother of two childrren with cerebral palsy, thanked MWAK for the initiative. She noted that through the campaign, her son would get a wheelchair through Bethany Kids who are friends of MWAK. “MWAK is a light of hope to my family and it is contributing to enhancing KDF’s welfare approach,” she said.

On invitation from MWAK, representatives from Bethany Kids were present to assess our children with special needs to identify and provide the required assistive devices.
The ladies also enjoyed sessions from a Lamaze/ lactation specialist whose purpose is to the ease pregnancy, labour, delivery and lactation processes for the mothers.
