The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) on Saturday,18th March 2023 celebrated its second anniversary and subsequently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Defence Headquarters, in Nairobi.
While presiding over the event, MWAK Chairperson Mrs. Tabitha Kibochi acknowledged the importance of the AGM and highlighted the great achievements realized by the Association since its inception in 2021.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Kibochi underscored the importance of increasing MWAK membership while calling on members to be good ambassadors so as to attract more membership.
The Chairperson noted that MWAK is currently sponsoring orphans within KDF and therefore urged for members’ cooperation in bringing forth more sponsors to aid educate the needy children.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Defence University-Kenya Professor Ann Mungai the keynote speaker urged MWAK to be at the forefront in championing family issues and accelerate empowering their well-being as they also look at how to balance it with their careers as women. She pointed out that she is passionate about empowering women and assured the MWAK members of her unwavering support.
Mrs. Hellen Nkaissery, wife to the late Cabinet Secretary of Interior Major General (Rtd) Joseph Kasaine Ole Nkaissery made a special presentation that appreciated and acknowledged MWAK’s positive impact to the KDF. She urged the members to seize the opportunity and help others in society and also focus on building networks and friendships that will be useful later when they transition from the military to civilian life.
The 2023 MWAK AGM provided an opportunity for members to deliberate on opportunities available to the Association as they explored ways to enrich and grow the association across all ranks.
