MWAK EMPOWERS COAST REGION KDF SPOUSES AND WIDOWS

Military Wives Association of Kenya(MWAK) today concluded a two-day mentorship and financial empowerment programme to spouses of serving, retired and deceased Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) families at Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe and Mariakani Garrison.

During the empowerment programme, they discussed issues relating to financial management, opportunities for women economic empowerment and welfare.

In his welcoming remarks, Commander Mariakani Garrison Brigadier Douglas Mokwena, congratulated MWAK members noting their role in promoting the welfare of KDF families. He also urged the participants to positively embrace the programme in order to improve their livelihood.

Representing MWAK Chairperson, Mrs. Selina Mutai applauded the participants for their immense support reminding them of the importance of MWAK in enhancing the well-being of KDF families both serving,retired, widows and orphans.

“I want to urge you to take into consideration the training sessions, work on improving your gaps and lets walk together for all of us to reach far,” said Mrs. Selina Mutai.

Mrs Selina Mutai further noted that the welfare of KDF troops is of utmost importance. She said that a soldier performs best in the line of duty when the family back at home is well taken care of.

Mrs. Dr Mary Odhiambo who is in charge of MWAK Monitoring and Evaluation Pillar, urged the KDF spouses to enroll as MWAK members enumerating the benefits of membership.

“You have the right attitude to go far.” she added.

The empowerment forum provided a platform for the KDF spouses and widows to exchange ideas and interact while acting as a support system to families of the deceased, abled differently persons, retired and serving KDF personnel .

Present during the empowerment programme were Senior Officers, Officers and MWAK Officials.
