Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) Chairlady Mrs Aileen Ogolla today 29th, November, 2023. presided over youth mentorship program at Moi Forces Academy, Mombasa . The week long annual National Military Youth Conference will close on Friday 01 December, 2023
Organised by the Kenya Defence Forces Chaplaincy-ACK, the mentorship program is aimed at equipping the youth with spiritual knowledge and appropriate information for making sound decisions in today’s complex global system. It is also tailored to assist them in identifying their goals to improve and maximise their potential.
In her speech, Mrs Ogolla lauded the clergy for successfully organising the conference that brings together youth from all KDF camps. She thanked the youth for attending, noting that lessons learnt from such conferences can be life changing.
“The biggest asset is your mindset. Consideration must be given to what you feed your mind on because that eventually defines what you become. A positive mindset will help you unlock your potential”, she said. In addition, she emphasized to the young people the importance of self-awareness without which one can easily fall victim to negative influences.
Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Peter Chelimo welcomed MWAK to the conference and thanked them for the programs that they continue to offer to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and their families. He noted that MWAK is playing a key role in ensuring that the welfare of soldiers’ families is holistically addressed . The Base Commander said that he is fully aware of the challenges facing youth. Kenya Navy will support programs geared towards shaping their future.
MWAK member, Mrs Effie Kinuthia, focusing on self awareness, took the youth through the values acquired when one is self aware including; decision making, self regulation, emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication. She requested the youth to self assess continuously using the SWOT analysis tool to help them identify and make the necessary growth adjustments.
Present during the program was KDF Chaplaincy led by Principal Chaplain Colonel Reverend Alfayo Lelei, Officers, Service Members and Families.
