The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) led by the Chairperson Mrs. Grace Kahariri, on 18 July 2024, joined Mrs. Robina Mwita, in celebrations for giving birth to quadruplets baby boys at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital (DFMH), Nairobi.
Together with DFMH staff, MWAK congratulated Sergeant Samson Mwita of 86 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion (ARB) and his wife for the quadruple bundles of joy. The preterm babies who were born weighing between 1.64 -2.28Kgs and admitted at Malaika Ward New Born unit for further management, have since stabilized and significantly gained weight up to 2.7Kgs and ready for discharge.
Naturally occurring quadruplets is a rare event that occurs once in approximately 600,000 births. It is even rarer for them to be born with such good weights. Mrs Robina, who is a nurse at a local dispensary in Rongo, was overjoyed, terming the births as a God’s miracle and abundant blessings especially having lost a 2-day old child in 2017, remaining with only one surviving son of 10 years.
According to the KDF’s Neonatologist, Colonel (Dr) Peter Mashep, the New Born Unit which is only about five years since its establishment, was privileged and fully equipped to undertake this significant task of ensuring the babies had achieved the 2kg and above milestone.
“KDF has acquired the latest equipment in this facility to cater for newborns, including incubators, oxygen units, monitors and Continuous Cositive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines amongst others” he disclosed.
Mrs Robina also expressed gratitude to the KDF medical team for the provision of the best pre-natal, maternity and postnatal health care to her and her quadruplets.
While congratulating the babies’ parents, Mrs. Kahariri acknowledged the challenges of raising children, especially the quadruplets, promising to follow-up including further visits at their home.
Prior to yesterday’s visit, Mrs. Kahariri had visited Robina on 9 July and gifted her a variety of supplies including formula milk, breastmilk fortifier, diapers, baby wipes, among other donations to the parents for upkeep. During yesterday’s visit, the MWAK team delivered similar key assorted supplies in bulk; in addition, the hospital pledged to provide the family with sufficient formula and diapers for the first one month after their discharge .
