
On 19th June 2025, the Chairperson of the Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK), Mrs. Grace Kahariri, and the Director of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation, Mrs. Mendi Njonjo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at KCB KENCOM Towers in Nairobi. This bold step towards sustainable social transformation within the military community marked the official launch of a strategic partnership anchored on innovation, empowerment, and inclusive development.
The partnership is intended to complement existing interventions by both institutions while expanding the reach and impact of community-based initiatives that support military families.
In her remarks, Mrs. Kahariri emphasized the significance of the MOU in advancing tailored, practical solutions for Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) families serving, retired, widowed, orphaned, and those with special needs. She noted that the agreement was not merely symbolic, but a platform to unlock ideas with the potential to transform lives.
“This MOU is more than just a document-it’s a launchpad for ideas that could change the world. It’s a commitment to a collaboration that goes beyond institutional boundaries. And it’s a promise to never stop asking “what if?” and “why not?”.
” Together, we’ll turn the promise of this MOU into groundbreaking discoveries, innovative solutions, and advancements that will shape the future. Here’s to a future of shared learning, breakthrough moments, and innovations that make a difference.” Mrs. Kahariri stated.
Representing KCB Group CEO Mr. Paul Russo and KCB Bank Kenya Managing Director Mrs. Anastacia Kimtai, Mrs. Njonjo lauded the collaboration as both timely and impactful. She acknowledged the quiet strength of military families, especially the spouses behind the scene and reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to offering meaningful support and reaffirming the Bank’s resolve to serve as a bridge to opportunity, stating: “Our role is to unlock potential to ensure they receive the tools and support they need to thrive.”
KCB’s Director of Retail Banking, Mrs. Jane Isiaho, expressed her joy at witnessing the partnership materialize, while Director of Mortgage, Mrs. Caroline Wanjeri, underscored the institution’s 128-year legacy of national service. She highlighted ongoing engagements with KDF leadership exploring enhanced retirement benefits and paid tribute to the often-unseen sacrifices made by military wives.
MWAK’s Mrs. Rose Nganga provided an overview of the Association’s mandate and key thematic pillars. She welcomed the partnership as timely and expressed optimism for a lasting and productive relationship with KCB.
Other MWAK members in attendance were Mrs. Monicah Tarus, Mrs. Fatuma Gula, Mrs. Elizabeth Ikenye, Mrs. Lucy Muthuri, and Mrs. Becky Kipkorir all of whom echoed a shared vision of growth, unity, and opportunity.
