INTRODUCTION

The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) is a non-profit association, registered on January 8, 2021, under Section 10 of the Societies Act and inaugurated on March 17, 2021.

MWAK was founded as a vehicle for interaction and the exchange of ideas to serve as a support system to KDF families complementing mainstream KDF welfare agencies based on the premise that a soldier performs best when he is assured that his family is well taken care of.

The association’s membership is voluntary for wives of KDF personnel. Membership is for all spouses of KDF personnel regardless of ranks.

In line with the MWAK Constitution, the top leadership of the association corresponds to the positions of respective spouses in KDF. As such, office holders for Chairperson and Vice Chairperson are by virtue of their status spouses of the Chief of Defence Forces and Vice Chief of Defence Forces, respectively. Other office bearers are drawn from the membership.

MWAK members have diverse expertise to deliver impact through MWAK operations and strategies.

Looking to Join Us?

The MWAK membership structure helps create a sense of community and solidarity with like-minded organisations. In establishing the critical needs or gaps affecting welfare of KDF families, MWAK used the Rapid Assessment approach during the visits to medical centers and all KDF sponsored schools in the 23 units, bases and formations. This gave us an understanding of where our interventions would have impact, hence the development of six focus action areas: health, mentorship, education, veteran affairs, housing and recreation.
