Today, 5th December 2024, Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) conducted a widows empowerment seminar for the Eldoret Chapter members at 9th Battalion the Kenya Rifles (9KR) in Eldoret
Led by the head of Partnership and Collaboration Pillar, Mrs. Grace Amogola and the coordinator of the Kenya Defence Forces Widows and Orphans (KeDWO) programmes Mrs. Regina Mulwa, the forum provided an opportunity for the widows to share and find solutions to common social issues affecting them.
In a speech read by Mrs. Amogola on behalf of the MWAK Chairperson Mrs. Grace Kahariri highlighted that the seminar was aimed at building a network for a support system in which military widows would feel honoured and appreciated as an integral part of the KDF family.
“ This initiative recognises the Peculiar Challenges which can also be opportunities to empower the KDF widows and is intended to foster their resilience by establishing and developing collaborative networks which are key at capacity building,” the speech read in part.
They were enlightened on the current and future projects spearheaded by the Chairperson aimed at providing continuous support to the members.
During the seminar, various topics were covered, including positive parenting, mental health awareness, alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse, as well as sensitization about Defence Forces Welfare Agencies and services.
The officials assured continued support to KDF serving, retired and widowed families in line with MWAK’s vision, and encouraged the participants to enrol in the organisation so as to fully benefit from the available welfare services.
Speakers were drawn from the Defence and Army Headquarters Compensation and Welfare Branches, County Government of Uasin Gishu Health Department, Ampath, and National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Substance Abuse (NACADA).
