MWAK AND FAMILY GROUP FOUNDATION CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT FOR APPLICANTS OF THE 4TH COHORT OF TUFUZU PROGRAM AT EMBAKASI GARRISON

The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) , under the leadership of Mrs. Grace Kahariri , in partnership with the Family Group Foundation, on January, 21 2025 conducted assessment and interviews to the applicants of the 4th Cohort of Construction Skills and Development Training Programme dubbed ‘Tufuzu’ at Embakasi Garrison.

In his welcome remarks, the Commander Embakasi Garrison Brigadier J L Lesaiyo, commended the collaboration between MWAK and Family Group Foundation in addressing youth unemployment and fostering self-reliance among military dependants. He assured the applicants of assistance once the training starts. “We will offer any assistance to the students once training commence.” said the Garrison Commander. They were requested to declare any condition for assistance.

The program is designed to empower Kenya Defence Forces Youth Dependants with affordable training that is accessible, practical, and industry relevant.
MWAK Head of Widows and Orphans Mrs. Regina Mulwa, thanked the leadership of Embakasi for hosting the training stating its significance in uplifting the KDF dependants thus contributing to the economic empowerment of military families.

She urged the applicants to use the opportunity to learn and improve on the skills they will acquire during the training to assist them in the job market and in their entrepreneurial pursuits.

The Family Group Foundation Senior Programs Manager, Ms. Damaris Muriithi, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment programs, ensuring high quality training and resources.

“Our collaboration with MWAK is a testament of our shared vision of youth empowerment with the tools they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market,” remarked Ms. Muriithi.

The event was attended by Deputy Commandant Defence Forces Technical College Colonel (Dr) J Kisilu, Senior Officers, Officers, MWAK officials, Service Members, Nairobi Institute of Technology trainers and the course applicants.

72 students qualified during the first interview with more expected on Monday, 26th January.

Training will commence on Monday, 26 January and the course will be Launched on Wednesday, 28 January.
