MWAK ATTENDS DISABILITY SEMINAR FOR MOMBASA REGION

Members of the Military Wives Association of Kenya on 16 April joined the KDF Compensation and Welfare Department for a disability mainstreaming seminar held at Mariakani Garrison, Mombasa.

The seminar was opened by the Garrison Commander Brigadier Joseph Mokwena who saluted MWAK for its positive impact in matters welfare and encouraged the personnel present to interact actively with the representatives in order to gain from the sessions.

The SO1 Welfare, Colonel Edward Nyamao gave an overview of various welfare agencies within the Defence Forces and assured the participants that despite their injuries, they are still a integral part of an institution that has a responsibility to consider their wellbeing and to support their rehabilitation by making use of their expertise.

Chairlady MWAK, Aileen Ogolla took time to salute those injured in the line of duty for their bravery and loyalty to the nation. She further expounded on the importance of joining the various KDF welfare agencies which benefit them and their families even after retirement.

“As Military Wives, we endeavour to work closely with the Compensation and Welfare department to identify gaps which we will endeavor to address within our association’s mandate.” She further encouraged those present to support the MWAK agenda by supporting their wives to join the association.

The internal and external facilitators took the KDF personnel through a series of insightful themes before proceeding to an interactive question and answer session which gave them the opportunity to voice their concerns.

Concurrently, MWAK executive committee members held a meeting with military wives of the chapter led by the Mariakani Regional Coordinator Hazel Mokwena; among the issues discussed were membership mobilization to join the association, the revised MWAK leadership structure and identification of innovative business ideas towards achieving financial independence.

In attendance were officers, KDF personnel, MWAK executive representatives and the regional leadership.
