MWAK CONDUCTS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM TO KDF PERSONNEL LIVING WITH DISABILITY

Members of the Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) led by the Chairperson, Mrs Tabitha Kibochi on 23rd September 2022, conducted a mentorship program for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Service Personnel with disabilities at the Moi Forces Academy (MFA) Lanet in Nakuru County.

The forum targeted Service Personnel who sustained injuries occasioned by their acts of valour while protecting and defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kenya leaving them with varied degrees of incapacity.

The program themed: Access, Inclusion and Support, saw different guest speakers drawn from varied backgrounds narrate their personal experiences as people with disabilities; in an effort to encourage them to live their lives responsibly and be dependable people in society.

MWAK chairperson, Mrs.Tabitha Kibochi affirmed that the organization is committed to their mission of improving the holistic well-being of all KDF families among them: serving, retired, widows, orphans as well as those injured in the line of duty.

Bright Oywaya, a guest speaker at the event and also an individual living with disability, implored the personnel to redefine themselves to fit into their new status and take up counseling sessions in order to find strength and a new path in life.

“Deal with fear in order to move from one place to the other, start loving yourself and walk towards your goal,” she added.

Representatives from the National Council for People With Disabilities (NCPWD), took the Service Personnel through the Councils’ mandate and the Government’s contribution in empowering people with disabilities such as exemption of tax.

The MWAK team was accompanied by the Chief Principal Moi Forces Academy – Lanet Mrs. Jedidah Mwangi, Colonel Compensation & Welfare Defence Headquarters Colonel Daniel Musyoka, Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members.
