Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) led by the Chairperson Mrs. Aileen Ogolla conducted women empowerment programmes at Laikipia Air Base (LAB) in Nanyuki and 78 Tank Battalion in Isiolo.
During the two days training, themed, Pamoja 2-Jiwezeshe, the women were taken through various sessions on starting and running a business for economic empowerment in line with the MWAK mentorship pillar.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ogolla expressed the importance of women being financially able in order to augment the income of their spouses. She added that MWAK is developing programmes aimed towards building of functional families.
“The mission of MWAK is to improve the holistic quality of life for every Kenyan military family, the serving, retired, widows and orphans. We believe that a soldier performs better when he knows his family is well taken care of,” said MWAK Chairperson.
Ms. Irene Mureithi a KDF Orphan sensitised the participants on the benefits of using digital business platform to expand their client base in line with current technological advancement.
Commanders from the two regions, Brigadier Mohamud Farah, Base Commander, Laikipia Air base and Brigadier Joel Arimi, Commander Armour Brigade, attended the forums and applauded MWAK for enlightening the women on the need for personal growth adding that, MWAK has positively impacted KDF families and is continuously improving their welfare.
In attendance were, MWAK Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Joyce Mwangi, Senior Officers, Lt Col Franklin Omuse, Compensation & Welfare, Defence Headquarters and MWAK officials.
