MWAK MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME FOR FAMILY BANK GRADUATES

The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) held a mentorship program for the first cohort sponsored by Family Bank. The event under the ‘Tufuzu Program’ was held at Langata Barracks, Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The participants were recipients of a three-month Family Bank sponsorship and training awarded through a partnership with MWAK. They gained construction skills in plumbing and electrical works and presented with toolkits to set them off. The group graduated on the 21st June 2023, in a ceremony graced by KDF leadership, management of Family Bank, MWAK members and families.

The one-day seminar was geared towards sensitizing the participants on job preparedness and planning, networking, financial responsibility, drug and substance abuse as well as building positive attitude for success.

Speaking to the participants, MWAK Chairperson, Mrs Aileen Ogolla, reiterated that they should consider themselves fortunate to have been the initial recipients of the training within KDF. She encouraged them to develop a positive attitude towards their choosen career path as prosperity follows passion. In addition, she urged them to seek opportunity to further their skills by joining Technical and Vocational institutions close to them. In concluding her remarks, she urged them to live a life of purpose and value for themselves and others.

Lt Col Omuse (Compensation and Welfare) encouraged the participants to use the skills learnt for national building even as they improve their lives and that of those around them.

Mrs Agnes King’ori, who was among the speakers in the event, took the graduands through current job market dynamics. She urged the female students to take construction work head on since the perception of male dominance in the construction industry has shifted.

Drugs and substance abuse is a menace and a threat to Kenyan youth, they were urged to desist from the vice as it will negatively impact on their lives and those of their families. The graduands were educated on the various effects of drugs and how they negatively impact on ones health and productivity.

The graduands were further advised to associate with positive minded people, have positive expectations and a winning attitude at all time. They were to embrace teamwork, hardwork and discipline in their endeavours in order to be successful.
