The Military Wives Association of Kenya in collaboration with Bethany kids christian mission has today undertaken an assessment and fitting of supportive aids equipment issued to children of Kenya Defence Forces service personnel living with disability at Defence wellness Centre in Langata.
The Association has been in the forefront championing the inclusivity of the disabled within the Kenya Defence Forces services, bases and Formations.
The event at the Defence Forces Wellness Centre saw various medical experts drawn from Bethany Kids conduct therapy treatment and tests aimed at identifying the abilities and disabilities of the disabled to be involved in certain activities.The test also aimed at identifying potential children to be issued with wheelchairs as well as supportive aids.
Additionally, the team also repaired and fitted worn out wheelchairs to improve their operationalization status.
Speaking during the event, MWAK secretary Mrs. Effie Kinuthia noted that the Association has continued to reach out to Kenya Defence Forces families abled differently both serving and retired to promote their wellbeing.
Langata Garisson Commandant Brigadier Isaako Jaldesa appreciated MWAK for choosing to address welfare challenges that exist within the service noting that the support so far received is an indicator of the value attached to the critical role they are playing in breaching the challenges of the disabled in the service.
“This day offers us firstly an opportunity to express our love to the wonderful children seated here and secondly an opportunity to honour, thank and support Kenya Defence Forces fathers and mothers who have answered the noble call of parenthood and continue to fly the families high despite challenges.” He said
MWAK and Bethany Kids mission has planned to roll out similar activities in Nakuru, Gilgil and Mtongwe in reaching out to all the needy children.
