PILOT TVET ON WHEELS PLANNING MEETING

The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) led by the Chairperson Mrs. Grace Kahariri hosted Assistance Chief of Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General Edward Rugendo and the Deputy Commandant Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) Colonel Dr. John Kisilu at MWAK headquarters for a Pilot Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on wheels planning meeting.

The meeting was to deliberate on the fourth cohort of Construction Skills and Development training which will be for vulnerable youths and children with special needs in Information Communications and Technology (ICT), dependants of Kenya Defence personnel under the Kenya Army. The training is scheduled for launch in October 2025 marking a significant step towards enhancing support for military dependants in matters skills.

The chairperson MWAK Mrs. Grace Kahariri stated that Education being among the MWAK Pillars, taking TVET on wheels training to regions would enable MWAK fulfill its support for military families through education.

Maj Gen Edward Rugendo noted that the TVET on Wheels initiative is an innovative and impactful program.
“By offering this program, training is reaching a wider audience and making a positive difference in the lives of many individuals, and I’m sure it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the MWAK team”. Said the ACDF P&L.

He applauded MWAK leadership on the planned rolling out of TVET on Wheels which will be a game-changer for skills development and empowerment, especially in underserved communities and children with special needs.

Deputy Commandant DEFTEC Colonel Dr. John Kisilu informed the meeting that through the assistance of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri, DEFTEC was approved to offer accredited programs starting with the scheduled 4th cohort.

TVET on wheels for children with special needs to be offered under DEFTEC’s TVET accreditation model
