KENYA AIR FORCE REQUIEM MASS FOR DEPARTED SOLDIERS

Members of the Military Wives Association of Kenya on 24 April attended a requiem mass for six of the departed Kenya Air Force soldiers who tragically died in the plane crash that happened on Thursday, 18th April between the border of Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gichu County.

The mass which was held at Moi Air Base aimed to celebrate the lives of the fallen heroes and mourn with the families and friends of the deceased.

MAB Base Commander, Brigadier Samuel Kipkorir,condoled with the entire service for the tragic event noting that it is a huge loss to the entire fraternity, both professionally and socially.

“As hard as it is to come to terms with the occurrence, it is important for us to be conscious to the fact that we are immortal. Our duty therefore is to keep their memories alive and support their families during this period.”

Commander Kenya Air Force Major General John Omenda confirmed that a team of senior officers has been constituted to investigate the cause of the crash and give recommendations on how to improve the flight safety going forward.

MWAK Vice Chairperson, Grace Kahariri, on behalf of the association, expressed her deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the gallant soldiers. She encouraged them to find solace in the scripture and in the assurance that MWAK will support them in this difficult journey.

“We pray for strength and solace for the families, leadership, colleagues and friends of the departed.
I would like to highlight that one of MWAK’s key focuses, aligned with our vision of enhancing the well being of military families, is to offer bereavement care to the widows. Kindly reach out to us for support since healing is found in community and not in isolation.”

The KAF soldiers who died in the crash include Late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, Colonel Duncan Keitany, Major George Magondu, Captain Hillary Litali, Senior Sergeant John Murithi, Sergeant Cliffonce Onyango and Sergeant Rose Nyawira.
