Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) on April 12 conducted a health outreach exercise at the MRS grounds in Embakasi Garrison in partnership with the Directorate of Medical Services and the Compensation and Welfare Department.
In his opening remarks, Garisson Commander’s representative Colonel Jackson Lessayo appreciated the service personnel for showing up in large numbers alongside their families. He expressed gratitude to MWAK for spearheading this noble programme. He urged the attendees to pursue follow up after screening for detected conditions.
Dr. Mary Odhiambo, Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Pillar, took to the platform to encourage families to adopt healthy lifestyles and seek early treatments. She then gave an overview of other programs that the association is implementing such as; education and mentorship among others.
Chairlady MWAK, Aileen Ogolla expressed her honor and respect to the men and women in uniform for their dedicated service to the country and reassured them of MWAK commitment to contributing to improving their welfare which in turn will enable them to focus on being mission ready.
“MWAK is that extra eye which looks into matters welfare within KDF and explores ways of addressing the gaps within its ability . Our plea is that you will support us and encourage your spouses to join us because there is strength in numbers and we will have greater impact as we make a difference one person and one unit at a time.”
Health practitioners took the KDF personnel and their families through a series of health education themes before proceeding to the screening and consultation sessions.
In attendance was C&W Lieutenant Colonel Franklin Omuse, DMS Col Kithinji, senior officers, KDF service personnel, MWAK members and families.
