Chaired by Mrs. Grace Kahariri, the Chairlady of the Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK), a planning meeting to firm up, align, and commit to the 5th Cohort of the Construction Skills Development Program and TVET on Wheels Training was held on Tuesday, 14 July, at MWAK Headquarters.
The session brought together key stakeholders dedicated to strengthening youth empowerment within the KDF community.
The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to delivering a programme that equips youth dependants of Kenya Defence Forces personnel with practical skills, confidence, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. The training aims to empower vulnerable military youth with market‑ready skills, income pathways, and resilience to support their families.
During her address, Mrs. Grace Kahariri underscored the significance of the 5th Cohort and MWAK’s dedication to empowering vulnerable military youth. Her remarks set a strong foundation for the planning session and reinforced MWAK’s commitment to sustainable livelihoods and dignity for military families.

The upcoming 5th Cohort of the Construction Skills Development Program and TVET on Wheels Training is scheduled to commence in September 2026. This transformative initiative continues to empower youth dependants of KDF personnel by equipping them with practical, industry aligned skills that enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and long term economic resilience.
Beneficiaries will receive high quality technical training delivered within military formations, ensuring accessibility, safety, and structured mentorship.
Programme focus areas include Plumbing, Electrical Installation, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with foundational and intermediate ICT skills aligned to current market needs. Training will be delivered by instructors from the Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) supported by the Nairobi Institute of Technology under the Family Group Foundation.

A total of 120 slots are available. Both Plumbing and Electrical installation 50 each while ICT takes 20 slots.
The program will be advertised in the KDF weekly Bulletins to reach as many vulnerable youth within KDF as possible. Applications for the 5th Cohort will open the week of 20 July 2026 across all MWAK social media platforms.
With the 5th Cohort scheduled to begin in September, preparations are underway to ensure seamless coordination, effective mobilization, and a supportive learning environment.
MWAK and the Family Group Foundation remain committed to expanding opportunities for youth dependants and strengthening the welfare pillar through sustainable skills development.
